The plan targets an annual financial improvement of more than $3 billion by 2017, including $2 billion in cost savings and $1 billion in revenue enhancements.

Ticket pricing rules violated

The US Department of Transportation fined Continental and US Airways on Thursday for not following the DOT's price advertising rules.

Continental was fined $120,000 for excluding fuel surcharges in its listed fares, and US Airways was fined a $45,000 for not providing informing customers of additional taxes and fees that applied to listed fares to Rome.

United's re-branding continues

Chicago O'Hare is one of the first airports to see the re-branding change take place for the new United during this merger with Continental. The old-school United "U" logoed banners and signs are being replaced with the new logo sporting the Continental globe. Houston is also quickly seeing the re-branding changes as the city is now being pushed as a major United hub.

Delta employees arrested on smuggling

CNN - Federal agents arrested 10 current or former Delta employees Thursday for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking at airports in Detroit and Houston, authorities said.

Two others who were not airline employees also were arrested.

"Today's arrests and charges close a major vulnerability at the airport," Immigration and Customs Enforcement director John Morton said in a statement. "We can't have people working in and around aircraft exploiting their positions for criminal ends."

American sues Orbitz

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- American Airlines has filed an antitrust suit against Orbitz Worldwide and its parent, the latest salvo in a long-simmering dispute over online airfares.

The airline wants Travelport and Orbitz, which is 48% owned by Travelport, to use its direct connect technology to access airfares online. The two companies use a different type of technology called global distribution system.

Orbitz partners with GlobalStar

Chicago-based Orbitz for Business announced an exclusive partnership with GlobalStar to "extend its travel management capabilities into 75 new countries" including Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. GlobalStar's partner network comprises 80 travel agencies, 3,500 office locations, and 14,000 employees driving $13 billion in sales.
