Chicago increases bed tax

Chicago is planning to increase room rates by an average of $1.78 per night under Mayor Rahm Emanuel's first proposed budget unveiled on Wednesday, Bloomberg reports.

It's one of various proposals from the mayor of the nation's third-largest city and business travel hub who's looking at filling the $636 million deficit left by his predecessor, Richard Daley, the story on BusinessWeek.com says.

Bed tax will jump from 15.4% to 16.4%, which will rival that of Los Angeles and New York. Taxes going up in Chicago... What else is new?
