Beat Live 2011 day one

Events - September 21, 2011 - 9:11am by thines

After a nice long flight and a day of baking in the desert heat, the opening reception for the Beat Live started at 5:30pm in the famous Venetian's meeting rooms. Some quick networking and appetizers made a nice little welcome to the 48-hour conference of 120 people.

Day one started early with a 7:45 continental breakfast and morning session at 8:30 welcoming attendees to the event. Sessions included a Court of Chancery panel discussing airline GDS conflicts and was followed up with an interview of ARC CEO Mike Premo.

After break, Amadeus EVP, Philippe Chereque gave a keynote presentation where he made his official retirement announcements. Right after, Steve Sign, Chairman and CEO of Concur took the hot seat answering the tough questions about Concur's initiatives.

After lunch, Tony D'Astolfo once again hosted a panel, like at every travel conference. We seriously see him everywhere, like he's stalking us, but in a good way. He gave the panelists each 10 minutes to make their industry predictions and as promised comically facilitated Q&A. Tony is the best!

The last session was the Future of Airline Merchandising with participants discussing how airlines are maintaining profitability.

The evening concluded with a reception by Amadeus at the Stratosphere tower. We we're wined and dined with the best view in Vegas. We were fortunate enough to watch Jay Campbell, founder of The Beat jump out of the 108th floor in a bungee dive free-fall.

After a little more exploring of the strip, we crashed to be ready for day 2.
